The newsletters this time, one on Preventing and Dealing with the FLU and the other on Depression,
are two areas where nutritional therapies can make a big difference in your long term
recovery. The nice thing about nutritional therapy is you can often add it to other more
mainstream allopathic therapies. Contact me for advice if you’re taking medications to
verify which herbs will interact well with what you are on.
I have been reading everywhere recently about the xenoestrogens we are
exposed to. They are act like estrogen in the body, hooking into the receptor site on the
cells that is meant for estrogen BUT their action is many times stronger than normal
estrogen. This causes an estrogen imbalance. Many cancers ( breast, prostate,
reproductive organs) are “estrogen fed”. What they have discovered is that these
xenoestrogens are the culprits that feed these types of tumors. Other symptoms of
estrogen dominance are heavy menstrual flow, PMS and menopausal symptoms, edema,
increased body fat, fibrocystic breast disease, endometriosis, infertility, migraine
headaches, uterine fibroids, osteoporosis, thinning hair, low sex drive, memory loss,
acne, prostate issues. The list includes over 80 symptoms so this is only a few! Just
google “sources of xenoestrogen” and you’ll see it is coming from many things in our
environment: dairy and meat raised with hormones as well as fruits and vegetables
raised with chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The big deal recently about BPA in plastic
bottles, plastic wrap and plastic containers is because they leach xenoestrogens into
your water or food. Most contaminating is when you REuse these containers or heat in
the microwave or freeze things in them. Other culprits are the chemicals used to clean
around the house, in the laundry as well as the chemicals many slather on as lotion,
shampoo, conditioner. If the ingredient list is not something you recognize you should
not put it on your body! Do some research! Also damaging are PVC pipes, lawn
chemicals, pharmaceuticals and MORE. New research shows that one of the LARGEST
SOURCES is on store receipts due to the way they are produced! Wash your hands after
handling (read my blog for full report from a doctor who researched this).
How to protect yourself? Watch your food choices (organic is worth the $$) and
containers ( use glass and pyrex containers and wax paper bags!) Look for Burt’s Bees
shampoos and soaps as well as Aveena and watch for homemade chemical free bath
products. Make your own cleaning supplies with Borax, vinegar, and baking soda and
essential oils - check out my blog or ask me for a printout of simple recipes to use.
Another wise preventative is to use PHYTOestrogen foods and herbs. These are plants
that have a weaker estrogenic action that go in and fill the receptor sites on the cell so
that the stronger xenoestrogens can not. These do not feed tumors. Phytoestrogen
sources are Flax oil, non-GMO soy foods, Super GLA oil blend, Female Comfort blend,
Flash Ease, Natural Changes and ProGYam cream. Need more info? Ask me for the
Estrogen Dominance CD/booklet pack ($5.00) to learn more about hormones.
REAL FOOD “TO GO”, REAL FAST
JANUARY 2010
I discovered a new way to make a wrap AND get more dark leafy greens
into your diet. A friend had told me how she had heard of lightly
steaming collard greens and using them to wrap things in. As I walked in
my garden I noticed my Brussell sprout plants had large leaves at the
top that looked JUST like collards. SO I tried dipping them in boiling water
till they turned dark green and got limp (20-30 seconds). I spread on
hummus, a slice of roasted red pepper and a piece of baked seasoned
tofu (Trader Joe’s)and rolled it up. They’ve been a hit with everyone I’ve
served them to. I am going to try it with Kale and of course, some
collard greens now that my Brussell sprout plants have gone by. These
green roll-ups have been my favorite fast food lunch to pack as I race
out the door. Another quick lunch to pack is hummus with crackers,
baby carrots and fast-to-cut celery. Or try Trader Joe’s Bean Dip. Add a
piece of fruit and/or a small bag of nuts or seeds and that should hold
you till supper time! Challenge yourself to create a fast healthy lunch and
thrive.Want to add more nutrition and rev up your energy? Add the new
Solstic powdered drink stick packages. They’re easy to carry and add to
your water- full of vitamins and minerals to balance pH and give energy.
