JAN 2011
Its a new year and that old feeling of taking charge of your path and improving things that need a change is stronger than ever. A movie that still can motivate all ages is “SuperSize Me” with Morgan Spurlock. But my newest favorite is “Food Matters”. Watch with your whole family to get a larger picture of WHY it is so important not to eat with a blind eye. Check Netflix, buy on Amazon or doctoryourself.com
I have started to incorporate ideas from this show. One of the easiest is to drink one to two liters of water first thing before any food in the morning. This helps flush toxins OUT so cells are ready to uptake the nutrition you will give them. Also helps weight loss. Feels great -Try it!
Another interesting point in the movie was the scientist talking about how COOKED food is seen as as a toxin in the body (enzymes are destroyed with cooking) but if 51% of the diet is raw it will compensate for this. RAW can include nuts, seeds, dairy as well as fruits and vegetables. So think about where to get raw foods into your diet.
I caught a segment of the “Early Show” that featured a segment on exercise that sharpens the brain and tones the body. “Super Brain, Super Body” is the book wrote by Michael Gonzales-Wallace. Find the video clip by googling ‘Early Show’ and have started my day with the suggested 10 minutes that got me feeling UP fast ( better than caffeine!) I am resolving to start my days with 10 minutes of this, then in the evening 10 min. of Yoga or Qi Gong and a 10-20 minute lunch time walk I may be able to reach my own goal of adding some regular exercise into my VERY loaded schedule. Many reports say that just 10 min exercise sessions 3-4 times a day can make a big difference in your health. If you are as busy as me you know STRESS is a real issue for you AND exercise is one of the BEST ways to combat stress. For additional help keeping my body from feeling the inflammatory effects of stress I do nutritional stress support as well. NutriCalm, Nervous Fatigue, Stress Relief, Stress J, Stress Pack Program, Adrenal Support - all these can keep a person from feeling frazzled. People constantly tell me they are amazed at the difference they feel in many areas after using one of these products for a few days.
Online, check out Mercola.com and search for his ‘Top 10 Articles of the Year‘ there are some great pieces on several subjects. This is a good site to subscribe to.
My favorite electric appliances this year are the tiny food processor that chops a cup or so of veggies in seconds, the tiny coffee grinder that chops flax seeds. Don’t eat these whole and it’s not a good idea to buy ground meal as Flax goes rancid fast when exposed to the air. ALSO remember not to have this in great quantity with your essential fatty oils like Fish oils and flax oil as fiber can cling to oils and excrete them.
LOCAL herbalists: Would you like to make your own salve? There will be a workshop to make this and discuss herbal first aid. CONTACT ME for dates!
REAL FOOD REAL FAST
KALE SALAD - ALL ingredients are raw for maximum nutrition.
In a small food chopper processor, fill and chop the following (amounts can vary according to what you have or tastes)
2 medium scrubbed un-skinned CARROTS, 1 large chopped BEET -scrub skin and cut off rough spots but no need to skin, KALE (stuff into chopper 1-4 times) 1 APPLE unpeeled
Put ground vegetables into large bowl. Take stems out of remaining Kale, swiss chard, spinach or collards: chop into small bite size pieces and mix into bowl. Add walnuts or cashews, ground flax seed, flax oil, fresh lemon, Braggs cider vinegar, crumble on top Feta cheese (I like the fat free one)
For variety you can add: diced tomatoes, diced avaocado, minced red onion . Keeps well in the fridge.
CHOCOLATE GREEN DRINK - Great for a fast breakfast that delivers lots of raw energy. PUT in Blender or Vita Mix
1 or 2 bananas ( I keep peeled ones in my freezer to give it a nice texture)
1 to 2 T. cacao powder (or unsweetened cocoa powder if unavailable)
1 large handful of fresh Greens (wild or cultivated)
OR 1 scoop of NSP Greenzone powder
Add Stevia or Xylitol if desired for sweetening. Add other fruits or substitute for banana.
